Part 4
"Angel?!!" Giles called in disbelief.
"I thought you'd left me, lover!" exclaimed Buffy, as she walked quickly over to greet Angel. He smiled uneasily at the amazed group. Buffy reached him, wrapped her arms possessively around his neck, and hungrily drew his lips down to hers for a long-awaited, passionate embrace.
Behind them, Xander and the others dashed over to Willow, and hurriedly lifted her up and took her over to the sofa in Giles' office. Giles left Willow with the others and exited the office, watching as Angel reluctantly broke the kiss and hugged Buffy warmly, her back to Giles. Angel glanced over at the librarian, who silently motioned towards the cage. Angel nodded slightly, showing he understood. Giles smiled sympathetically at the pained vampire - Buffy would be furious at Angel for this!
"Come on, baby," murmured Angel seductively in Buffy's ear, "We'll deal with this lot later." Buffy smiled coldly.
"Promise?" she enquired sweetly. Angel just smiled in return, and picked her up. Buffy lay her head on his shoulder, thinking of the fun she and her lover would have torturing her former friends, and sighing contentedly as she closed her eyes, delighted to be in her Angel's arms again.
With her eyes closed, and her mind so wickedly busy, Buffy failed to take notice of the plan in action before her. Angel walked towards the door as Giles followed quietly behind them. Instead of heading right out the door, Angel swung with lightning speed into the caged area, placed a startled Buffy on the bed she had woken up on earlier, and dashed out the door, with Giles slamming closed and locking the cage door behind Angel.
Enraged, Buffy launched herself madly against the cage wall towards Angel, vamped out and growling angrily. "You betrayed me, Angel!" she screamed furiously, "How could you?! I thought you loved me?!" Buffy paused, regaining her composure, and morphed back into her human guise. "I guess Angelus was the truthful one when he said you pretended to love me!" she snarled, her eyes burning with anger. Angel turned away to hide the pain and hurt in his own eyes at her accusation. Giles placed a comforting hand on his shoulder.
"It's not her, Angel. Just like Angelus was not you. She'll understand when it's done," Giles said quietly. He hated the idea too, but now the Slayer was a vampire. And with her strength, mind and abilities, a potentially dangerous one at that. It had to be done, as the only alternative to completely killing her.
Angel nodded. "Let's get it done."
The others re-entered the room, gathering around the orb that Giles had produced - the same orb that was used for Angel. Angel moved over to stand beside the cage, looking at Buffy, who was glaring darkly at him from the other side. "Traitor," she hissed, as the gang proceeded to chant the Curse of Restoration. Angel just sighed sadly.
Suddenly, Buffy howled with pain, clutching her stomach. She fell to the floor in a heap, and was silent. Angel could only look on in concern, desperate to hold her in his arms as she went through her transformation. Giles came up to him and nodded. He opened the door, allowing Angel access to Buffy. Angel gathered her up and sat with his arms wrapped protectively around her, absentmindedly rocking her small, limp body back and forth gently, whispering inaudible words in her ear.

Part 5
An hour later, Buffy remained asleep, and Angel retained his watch over her, sitting quietly with Buffy bundled up tightly in his arms. Giles and the others sat silently outside the perimeter of the cage walls, looking on anxiously.
"Don't you want to know?" Angel's voice broke the sad silence. Giles glanced up at him.
"Know what?" he asked, even though he had an idea what it was. Angel sighed.
"Who made her. Who brought her over, changed her. I know who it was. It happened right before I brought her here to the library," explained Angel sadly. Everyone looked up in surprise.
"You brought her here?!" exclaimed Xander. His eyes suddenly narrowed. "Just how long have you been around?!" he continued suspiciously, " 'Cause ya know, your girlfriend has sorta been giving us the wiggins lately, what with her temper and all. And it was all because she sent you to Hell - an action that, I might add, was best for all of us - and Buffy has had to live with it from that day on!" Xander glared angrily at Angel, his eyes flashing. Cordelia groaned loudly, and threw Xander an exasperated look.
"Oh, shut up already, Xander! It was best for all us?! Best for you, maybe - but not for Buffy. Or for Angel. Stop thinking about yourself and your pathetic jealousy of Angel for one second, would you?!" Cordelia spat angrily, "Just remember who it was that never told Buffy about that curse thing being tried again before all this Hell stuff happened!!" Xander stared at Cordy in shock at her bluntness. He opened his mouth to defend himself, but wisely decided against it and remained silent. Angel growled quietly at learning of Xander's betrayal, but soon calmed himself. It had happened, nothing could change that. And there were far more important things to deal with right now.
"So who was it, Angel?" The quiet, weak voice of Willow cut through the tense air. She had a feeling she knew what the answer was anyway. Her eyes betrayed her line of thought to Angel, who nodded slowly in confirmation. Willow sighed. "I knew it."
"Who? Who was it?" demanded Xander, finally able to speak again, but still reeling from Cordy's words. Giles murmured a quiet "Oh no... " and turned away. Cordelia gasped slightly and lowered her head. She knew it too. Xander remained confused.
"Who?!?! Who was it?!" he cried, frustrated. Then it suddenly occurred to him. He looked to Angel for confirmation, but Angel's face was buried in Buffy's neck.
A light moan escaped Buffy's lips. Angel's head snapped up, and the gang looked over at the couple anxiously. Buffy's eyes opened. She smiled weakly as her eyes took in the sight that greeted her, and her loving, forgiving gaze met that of her lover. Her Angel. Her sire.
.
Part 6
"OK, so how did you get to be her sire?" enquired Willow, as she sat comfortably on a soft chair in Giles' office, resting quietly next to Oz, who had arrived soon after the souled Buffy awoke. The Slayer herself was now sleeping soundly again in the arms of Angel, curled up together on the sofa. Buffy had still been quite weak after she had woken up, and had soon fallen asleep again. Xander and Cordy stood away from each other on opposite sides of the room; Giles was perched on his desk.
"Yeah," agreed Xander quietly, still smarting from Cordy's earlier remarks, "and when - and how - did you get back here?" Angel sighed. Long explanations just weren't his thing. But he owed it to all of them...
"Two months ago, when Buffy stabbed me with the sword and sent me to Hell through the Acathlan vortex, my soul had been restored just beforehand - a fact you are probably all aware of." The group nodded sadly. Angel continued. "Anyway, because I had done so many evil deeds in my lifetime - particularly regarding Drusilla, and the six months after Angelus returned - I was already suffering - more so than ever, with Buffy involved... " He looked away briefly to glance at Buffy's peaceful face, and a wave of anger at himself shot through him. He shook his head, and continued. "So, I was sent into another dimension between Hell and earth - a place that is worse than Hell for those that can feel the pain and guilt of their past actions. Instead of being tortured by others, you are left alone with your thoughts...
"I have been in that dimension for the last month and a half, or so, and there I was supposed to stay for all eternity - but about a week ago, a small vortex suddenly began to form before me. It was too small to be of use, at first, but as the days went by, it grew larger, until finally, three days ago, I was able to step through. And Sunnydale was where it led me."
"So that would explain the wall!" exclaimed Giles, quite animated about the discovery, "You, Angel, are the demon sent forth from Hell that the poem spoke of! - oh, but it wasn't Hell... "
Angel nodded. "No, but you are right - according to legend, the last time this happened was over 400 years ago. An invisible wall surrounds the town to which the demon will be sent, as a sort of barrier, in case more than the chosen demon manages to escape. I was not technically in Hell, so there was no real danger there to begin with, but it formed anyway, for safety," Angel concluded. "Actually," he added, thoughtful, "I would like to know who cast the spell to bring me back." Everyone looked at him, confused. "It takes ultimate power to do that sort of thing - a power no mortal could possibly possess," he explained, "I guess we'll never know."
"But what was the "chaos will reign" part referring to, then?" asked Willow, curious. Angel smiled slightly.
"It's not meaning "chaos" in the more negative sense of the word, Willow - it refers more to the chaos that is caused amongst those that know the demon, since they aren't really expecting them to come back! I think the last demon sent back from Hell was the soul of a young man called Romeo... "
"Ok, we don't need to know the la-la story of R and J, pal," interrupted Xander, rolling his eyes, "We now know the 'how you came to be here' part. What about the 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer is now a vampiric Vampire Slayer' part?" Angel's smile faded, and he shifted uncomfortably on the sofa.
"Ah... that part." He glanced around at the enquiring, curious eyes of the Watcher and Buffy's friends. "Ok... uhh... I came across Buffy in the park - she was lying flat on her back, with a vampire kneeling beside her, draining her blood." Willow gasped, and automatically gripped Oz tighter. "Buffy wasn't even fighting... " Angel said, closing his eyes briefly to mask the fear he felt as he remembered seeing the Slayer like that. He continued. "I raced over to her, picked up a stake that Buffy must have dropped during the fight, and quickly finished off the vamp. But I was too late... too much of Buffy's blood had been drained... "
"So basically, she was... dying?" whispered Cordelia, sadly. Angel nodded slowly.
"Yes... she was still conscious when I finally got to her - but barely. When Buffy saw me... " Angel smiled slightly at the memory of her beautiful, surprised, 'only-for-Angel' smile spreading across her pale face, "... she was so happy... she knew she was dying, too. And I could tell that she didn't want to. The look in her eyes... Buffy whispered that she could not bare leaving any of you. Or... or me. Her request was so firm and decided - Buffy knew what she was doing when she asked me to... so, I-I did it. Then I brought her here, and laid her down while you were all in the office. I was going to stay, but some vampires were lurking outside - I didn't want them to get Buffy in her weakened state. I came straight back... I-I thought she sleep for longer... " Angel broke off, and buried his face in Buffy's neck to hide the tears that threatened to fall. The room remained very silent, until Xander cleared his throat, and started over towards Angel.
"I... I'm sorry... " whispered Xander, almost inaudibly. He reached Angel, and placed a hand gently on his shoulder. "You had a tough choice... I think you made the right one." Xander smiled respectfully at Angel, who was surprised, to say the least, at having just received one of the only truly kind comments Xander had ever said to him.
"I agree," added Willow, nodding. Giles added his approval, as did Oz and Cordelia.
Angel smiled.

Part 7
It took everyone - including Buffy, and her mother - quite a while to get used to Buffy being a vampire. Buffy was glad to see the partial fear, that had once existed in the eyes of her friends when they saw her, disappear rapidly, and she herself was happy to live off packaged blood. All in all, Buffy had learned to accept things as they were. Being a vampire wasn't so bad. And it meant that she could be with Angel all the time. Always. Forever. He was so kind, so loving... just the way he always was before he had lost his soul all those months ago. Buffy smiled every time she reminded herself how lucky she was to love and be loved by someone so much.
One morning, as Angel finished having a shower, and Buffy sat in bed awaiting her lover, a strange mist began to form near the centre of Angel's apartment room. Buffy happened to look up to check on Angel's progress, and instead of being greeted with his body form, all she saw was a cloud of fogginess. "Uhh... Angel, do you often have little clouds forming spontaneously in your apartment?" she called, half playful, half slightly concerned. Angel came out of the bathroom, sliding a shirt over his head.
"Buff, what are talking about?" he enquired, chuckling at such an odd question. On seeing the cloud-like 'thing' in front of him, his eyes widened, and he sidled briskly around the edge of the white mass, and dropped himself down on the bed next to Buffy.
"Oh my... !" exclaimed Buffy quietly, and she gripped Angel's hand tightly. Two slightly faded human forms had appeared, and now stood smiling at the speechless couple. One of them stepped forward, put her hands on her hips, and shook her head.
"Finally... It took us ages to get permission to do this, ya know!" the smiling figure said wryly. The second figure rolled her eyes, and crossed her arms.
"You have no idea... " she muttered, eyes sparkling. Angel and Buffy just sat there staring, mouths open in shock. Both of the visitors laughed, before the first one spoke again.
"We have a limited amount of time... we just wanted to check up on you both, make sure our spell worked and all that - and it would appear that it worked a dream, wouldn't you say?" she asked her partner, who nodded in reply. Angel snapped out of his shocked state, and broke into a smile.
"You... you two did it?!" he asked in disbelief. The figures nodded.
"Proud, much?" chided the second figure, chuckling. Buffy grinned, and wrapped her arms tightly around Angel.
"Very," said Buffy with mock seriousness, "Well deserved proudness! Thank you so much!" she said, still somewhat amazed. The visitors laughed, and the first one spoke again.
"You're very welcome, Buffy! - oh... uhh... sorry to hear about that... uhh... vampire thing... " she said awkwardly, looking down. Buffy shook her head, and shrugged.
"It's not so bad... and besides, I can finally spend all my time with Angel, and not have to worry about school, or homework... " Everyone laughed. Angel took Buffy in his arms and gently kissed her forehead, hugging her protectively.
"Well, we should go. There's one more person I want to see!" the first figure said, smiling, and waved. Buffy and Angel were sad to see them go, but waved in return, repeated their profuse thanks... and the figures were gone. The couple looked at each other, and burst out laughing, happy that the truth was finally known, as to who was responsible for bringing Angel back from Hell.
"Poor Giles!" exclaimed Buffy, grinning, "He is gonna absolutely wig!" Angel shook his head in amazement.
"I never would have guessed it was those two, especially since I was the one who killed... " he began, but Buffy silenced him with a finger to his lips. She shook her head.
"It wasn't you, remember that," she whispered seriously, before brightening up and smiling again. "And neither would I have thought it possible... to think!! Jenny Calendar and Kendra... " Buffy's thoughts were cut pleasantly short as Angel's mouth reached her own, and he kissed her passionately - as he would for hundreds of years to come.
